The difference between ‘Self Care’ and ‘Soulful Self Care’.
We hear it all the time now on the 'gram, with countless selfies of "self care Sundays". It's the magic elixir that leads to emotional awareness and energy...but what is it exactly???
There are two kinds of self care. Boring self care....and soulful self care.
Boring self care is the stuff you OUHGT to do to take care of your physical well being, which includes...brushing your teeth, taking off your makeup, eating the right things, sleeping enough, staying hydrated etc etc. The boring self care gives you a baseline, and the mental and physical capacity to handle the physical day to day. But I am the first person to admit that when I'm having a tough time or a bad day, taking off my makeup just isn't something I think about.
The truth is, although it's so important we spend time taking care of our bodies, I find my healing in...SOULFUL SELF CARE!
This, ladies and gents, is my absolute favorite.
This is the stuff that FEELS GOOD. That you WANT to do.
That you, your body and your mind long for.
This was such an important lesson for me to learn, and one that changed my world.
There are two goals when it comes to soulful self care...
1. Getting grounded within your body
2. Getting centered in your mind.
I believe that only when you get immersed in those two concepts, can we start to feel worthy. To feel emotionally aware. To feel like we are capable of the changes we are craving. How do I know this? I know this because it's the one thing that I have come back to again and again. Within therapy, throughout the waves of my life, throughout the challenges that I've experienced. When my soulful self care goes out the window, I get stuck emotionally and I can't find a way out until I've applied these principles.
In my Self Care Guide and Workbook, I explore these concepts in more detail and walk you through the 4 keys to soulful self care. To grab your copy, go to www.shebered.com/selfcareguide!
